Object #1: Angel Bracelet
For these pictures, I choose to photograph a angel bracelet that I have in remembrance of my friend Wynnie. When I moved to my middle school in fifth grade, I started volunteering at High Point, a school for young adults with disabilities. There, I met a beautiful young woman named Wynnie, who I became great friends with throughout my middle school career. February 2017, Wynnie was diagnosed with Pneumonia, and passed away a few days before her 26th birthday. After what would have been her graduation day, her mom gave me this bracelet as a present and a remembrance bracelet. On the back of it, it has her name inscribed, and this has become one of my most cherished objects. When I knew that I had to pick objects important to me, I knew that I would choose this one, to honor and keep Wynnie with me wherever I go. I know that I will cherish our short friendship forever.
Object #2: Petoskey Stone
The object that took these pictures of is a Petoskey stone that my brother got from up north in Glen Arbor Michigan. The reason that I decided to take a picture of a Petoskey stone, is because it reminds me of many memories that I have with my family on vacation. Every year we go up to Glen Arbor, and when we go to the beach and watch the sunrise, I always look for these with my brother. When I look at the pictures that I took of the stone and the water, I can imagine the beautiful Michigan sunsets that we see during our vacation, and it puts me in a place of peacefulness and tranquility. In fact, to take the pictures of these, I actually did it at Gallup Park, but had to make sure that I made it look realistic enough to set the correct mood and tone that I was going for.
Object #2: Piggy Bank
The object that I took this picture of, was a piggy bank that I also bought up north at a small shop in Leelanau, Michigan. Although I do not really have a specific reason that I liked this pig, I saw it and automatically knew that I wanted to keep it as a souvenir from my vacation. As I was deciding what I was going to take a picture of, I decided that this would be a good object in the fact that it always looks so happy. I kind of find it funny, that it always looks like it is smiling at the camera, and for that reason, I named the first one "photogenic". Another thing that I found very fun about photographing this object, was that I could play a lot with where I was taking the photo. Because I can either use it as a garden decoration, or a real pig, I felt that I had many options as to where I would stage the photo, which gave me a lot of freedom to play around with it.
Object #4: Softball
The reason that I decided to take a picture of a softball, was that softball has been a big part of my life since I was really little. I remember playing t-ball (or rather playing in the dirt) when I was little, to yesterday playing my first Skyline softball game, and I just can't imagine my life without the sport. Since fifth grade, I have been a pitcher, hence the reason I took the first photo on the pitching mound. I feel that pitching has not only been a super fun experience, but has formed me to be more of a leader than I had been otherwise. Another reason that softball has helped me throughout my life, is that it has helped me make a lot of friends that I would probably not gotten to know otherwise. This has not only helped me be a more confident person, but has helped me as I have transitioned from a super small middle school, to a high school as large as Skyline.
Object #5: Strawberry
The reason that I choose to do a strawberry, was not just because I think they taste good, but because they are a very bright and happy fruit. I really think that bright colors show positivity and happiness, and I think a strawberry definitely embodies that. As I was taking the photo on the left, I cut the strawberry open, and by chance, I realized that it looked exactly like a heart. I think that this was pretty cool, because I knew that I wanted to show something more than a strawberry in my picture, and I think I succeeded. The only hard thing about taking this picture, was that I did not really know what background to use for a strawberry. I ended up just using the grass for both, which I think looks pretty good, but I still wish that I could have done a bit more.
